U.S. National
CBS 60 Minutes did an segment on Michael Lewis' newest book, The Premonition about people who, in early 2020, tried to sound the alarm about COVID-19 as CDC officials failed to act.

Here's a live map of the U.S.  During the day almost every large jet image on the map indicates a commercial airliner.  Hover over one and you can read the airline, aircraft, elevation, speed, origin and destination.   Florida, California and New York have been hot spots for the highly transmissible B.1.1.7 variant.   Looking at the flight patterns to and from hubs, it becomes clear how this variant is likely to spread.

Over the past 7 days, the U.S. averaged per day 35,278 new cases and 630 deaths due to COVID-19.
US National COVID-19 charts: cases, deaths and recoveries, both daily and cumulative. The toll of 245,087deaths just since the first of this year due to COVID-19 is equivalent to crashing 1,140 fully-loaded Boeing 737s (over 8 each day) or equivalent to 82 times the death toll on 9/11/01 (that's one 9/11 every 38 hours 59 minutes).

The chart on the right illustrates the difference on a daily basis between COVID-19 incoming cases and those resolved through recovery or death. It indicates the increasing or decreasing load on the national healthcare infrastructure (up is bad: it means more cases, more ICU beds, more potential deaths). On January 8th alone, the single-day increase was more than 204,000 cases. This is exhausting and dangerous for all our intensive care professionals— RNs, LPNs, MAs, DOs, MDs, PAs, techs, staff.... We must drive the orange line down below zero for an extended period of time for everyone's sake. For us to be through with this, the area below zero must equal the full area of the load above zero since the start of the pandemic.

Here are the monthly totals of New Cases and Deaths: US monthly COVID-19 charts of case and death totals.

Oregon (See OHA's COVID statistics pages for details.)

Over the past 14 days, Oregon averaged per day 695 new cases and 6.2 deaths due to COVID-19.

The Oregon Health Authority maintains a County Watch List. If you're traveling in the state, you might want to check their list and the chart below. The situation changes significantly day-to-day.
